Journalist Steven O'Malley, known for his distinction in the field, covers the story of the death of a prominent hero and national leader who passes away in a car accident on an open bridge. Christine Forrest, the widow, has avoided the media, but offers to assist O’Malley when he tells her that he is writing a biography to preserve her late husband's inspiring leadership. However, when O’Malley discovers that Christine could have warned her husband of the dangerous bridge, he confronts her with this information. She eventually reveals that her husband had become a fascist and was planning to use his public influence to seize control of the country. Her love for her country motivated her to not warn him. She wishes for her husband's past record to stand for the good it might do. O’Malley agrees not to reveal the truth. But when Christine Forrest dies, O’Malley publishes the true story, exposing Forrest and praising Christine.
