Floris (2004)
Floris van Rozemond Junior, the heir of a family of knights, rebels against his father's expectations of him joining the military. Instead, he becomes an actor, a profession his father, a general, scorns. The duke has chosen to spend money on bread and butter for the people, instead of weapons for the army, and relies on a supposed Holy relic, a nail from the Cross, for protection. The relic is smuggled into the court in a horse's hindquarters, but the duchess of Gelre believes she has obtained it from the courier's stripped body. When Floris Sr. is tasked with transporting the relic, he hides it in cheeses which are eventually sold to the duchess and distributed as Christmas bonuses to her men. The Gelre side kidnaps Floris Jr. in an attempt to trade him for the relic, but he is helped to escape by a Chinese man named Pi. When Floris Sr. refuses to listen to their plan, they embark on their own quest, enlisting help from common people and infiltrating the duchess's castle on a hunt for the true relic, while she poses as a magical healer.
