Macadam (1946)

Madame Rose is the ruthless proprietor of a run-down hotel on the outskirts of Paris. Having murdered her honest husband in the past, she now turns a blind eye to smuggling in order to maintain her business. When Victor, a former accomplice who is being chased by the police, seeks refuge at her establishment, she foolishly accepts a suitcase filled with banknotes from him, with the intention of keeping it for herself. But when Victor is caught and jailed, Rose's betrayal is revealed, and he manages to escape with a single goal: to seek revenge against her.
